KPN fined € 8,5 million euros for illegal discounts to business customers

A judge ordered Dutch telecom KPN yesterday to pay a 8,5 million euro fine. KPN was fined € 10 million by the Dutch competition authority Opta in 2010 for granting illegal discounts to six large business customers.

KPN challenged the fine but its appeal was denied yesterday. The sum was lowered to € 8,5 million however, because the judge deemed some infractions to be repetitions of already-fined infractions.

Since 2011, KPN is under increased scrutiny by the Dutch competition authority because of its dominant position on the market.
