Aldi to start selling Nokia Lumia 800 for less than € 200 in Belgium

04 Jan, 2013

Next week, hard discounter Aldi (Belgium) will start selling Nokia 800 for € 189, Belgian tech mag DataNews reports this morning.

The Nokia Lumia 800 was introduced in October 2011 at a price of € 400. In 2012, prices for the device were lowered to under € 300.

The reason for low pricing is probably the fact that the Lumia 800 won’t be able to run the Windows Phone 8 operating system due to “platform architecture”. Instead, it can be upgraded to the Windows Phone 7.8 operating system, which includes some WP8 features for existing WP7 phones.

Nokia’s new smartphones that do run on Windows Phone 8 – the Lumia 820 and 920 – will hit the Belgian market in mid January.

The Lumia 920 is already available in Italy, Russia, Germany, UK, France, Poland and Finland.
